Not only window structures are produced on the basis of a plastic profile. Metal—plastic doors are also quite popular today - at the same time, high strength, energy efficiency and versatility can be included among their advantages.
The use of modern plastic profiles and door fittings with different characteristics makes it possible to produce doors that differ in design, purpose, as well as in the method of opening.
Types of door structures at the installation site
The main factor to consider when choosing the design and configuration of a metal—plastic door is the place of its installation. The requirements for strength, thermal insulation, burglar resistance, appearance, etc. depend on where the door will stand.
The main types of door structures:
Entrance. They are placed on the border between the street / entrance and the premises — residential, commercial or public. They can additionally be equipped with sliding grilles, roller shutters or other protective devices.
Interior. They are mounted indoors — both residential and commercial. In residential buildings and apartments, they are inferior in popularity to wood and MDF products. On the other hand, for offices, shops and similar objects, metal—plastic doors are an excellent alternative to aluminum ones.
Balcony. They are placed at the entrance to the balcony, made as light as possible, but at the same time sealed.
The second important criterion is the method of opening:
The most common are swing designs with a door leaf that rotates on side hinges. Swing opening can be right or left (depending on the location of the hinges), as well as internal or external (depending on the direction of movement of the sash when opening).
Sliding plastic doors have become popular relatively recently — with the advent of effective sliding fittings on the market. Unlike the swing sash, the sliding one moves parallel to the plane of the structure itself. Due to this, when opening the door, free space is significantly saved.
The complete set of plastic doors is selected taking into account both factors.
Doors for loggias or balconies
For the production of balcony plastic doors, a light window (rather than a heavier and harder) door profile is used. The small size of the sash and low operating loads make it possible to reduce costs — but at the same time the requirements for thermal insulation characteristics will be high.
Pay attention! This is true for doors that lead to glazed balconies or loggias. It is recommended to make a balcony door for an unglazed balcony on the basis of a door profile with dimensions of at least 60 mm.
The main filling option is a two—chamber energy-saving double-glazed window. Combined filling is also possible, separated by horizontal impost:
In the upper part there is a double—glazed window.
At the bottom there is a sandwich panel.
The horizontal impost increases the rigidity of the door leaf — even a large structure will deform less and require less adjustment. The sandwich at the bottom provides a combination of strength with protection from heat loss. At the same time, a transparent double-glazed window lets in enough natural light.
The balcony door can be equipped with such additional elements:
To protect against erroneous opening, a lock is installed on the sash. This part prevents the sash from opening simultaneously in the rotary and folding position when trying to open the door in the ventilation mode. If the lock is not installed, sometimes the door leaf will hang on the bottom hinge.
The installation of a double-sided handle makes it possible to control the locking mechanism both from the side of the room and from the balcony. With the help of such a handle, you can close the door tightly, going out on the balcony to smoke. In addition, the double-sided handle is convenient if you have a small child. Cases when children accidentally closed the doors, and adults found themselves locked on the balcony without the opportunity to get out are not too rare.
If there are no children, then you can limit yourself to a smoker's pen. It is placed on the door from the balcony side and makes it possible to press the sash to the frame by locking it with a latch.
Doors for offices or apartments
The door, which is located inside the room, does not necessarily have to keep maximum heat. But the appearance, ease of opening and good sound insulation will definitely be on the priority list.
The construction of a door (not window) profile with a width of 60 to 70 mm is used as a basis: the larger the dimensions of the door cavity, the higher the requirements for profile rigidity. Laminated doors are more preferable — their appearance allows you to organically fit the structure into the design of the room.
The main locking element is a roller latch or a pressure headset with a standard latch. Both mechanisms can additionally be equipped with standard cylinders with a key: they can be used to lock the door and prevent unauthorized entry.
A double-glazed window or sandwich panel (white or laminated) can be used as a filling of the sash or blind part. The use of designer double—glazed windows - tinted, textured, decorated with sandblasting patterns — can significantly improve the appearance of the door.
Pay attention! Imposts on such doors are often made oblique or bent (curved). In this case, in addition to increasing rigidity, the impost also performs a design function.
Constructions of the entrance group
The low thermal conductivity of the multi-chamber plastic profile becomes the main argument in favor of its use in the production of entrance doors. At the same time, the correct selection of components also ensures reliability and durability:
For entrance doors, the optimal choice will be a door profile with a width of 70 mm. Even with large sash dimensions, such a profile system will not be subjected to deformations. In addition, high strength will be important when trying to break into a plastic door by intruders.
To reduce heat loss, warm thresholds with thermal breaks, seals, polymer inserts (windstop) and other components can be used. All these details increase the tightness of the vestibule and reduce the permeability of the closed door to warm air.
Pay attention! In order for heat loss to be minimal, the door fittings must be adjusted for uniform and strong enough clamping along the perimeter of the structure.
A two-chamber energy-saving double-glazed window with an inert gas filling installed in the door is also needed to increase energy efficiency. Triplex or glass laminated with a durable polymer film is used as the outer glass.: so the double-glazed window will not be broken during hooligan actions or attempts to penetrate.
The choice of design solutions for plastic doors is very wide. To improve the appearance , you can use:
Oblique and bent imposts.
Laminated or painted profile.
Decorative glazing.
Stained glass windows
Sandblasting drawings, etc.
With the correct selection of equipment, as well as compliance with the installation rules, a plastic door — balcony, interior or entrance — will last for decades without complaints.

In Ukraine, the use of energy-saving double-glazed windows began relatively recently. About 15 or even 10 years ago, even a standard single-chamber double-glazed window was considered quite efficient, and the level of energy saving was increased only by increasing the number of cameras. Energy-saving glass was considered a kind of exotic, and its effectiveness was questioned by many.
The protective film that is applied to the profile on the production line is designed to prevent contamination and damage on the profile only during transportation and installation of PVC structures. Therefore, it must be removed from the profile after the installation of structures. If the film has been on the installed window for a long time, there may be problems with its removal. In this case, special funds will be required to remove it.
When choosing a window sill, you need to take into account several aspects at once. In order for the window sill to look organically and serve effectively — pay attention to the installation location, load, frequency of care. And don't forget about your requirements for the appearance of the window!
Metal-plastic windows are easy to care for: maintaining cleanliness does not require significant effort. But in the case of severe contamination, it may be necessary to use special means for cleaning PVC profiles, double-glazed windows and window sills, which you need to choose depending on the type of contamination.
