• The first task is obvious. We get rid of the air saturated with carbon dioxide and get oxygen-rich air. Ventilation is necessary for good health and high efficiency. The more people in the room, the more intensively they work (including mentally) — the more intensively you need to ventilate the room.
• The second task is to normalize humidity. We remove moist air saturated with water vapor from the room, let in a drier one. If this is not done, moisture will accumulate in the room.
• Finally, it is important to just periodically change the volume of air. Together with it, dust, pollen of plants, pet hair and other particles suspended in the air will go into the ventilation.

Ventilation should not just be carried out — it should be carried out often enough. When airing, it is necessary to replace a certain volume of air in the room, otherwise it will not cope with the tasks described above.

The multiplicity of air exchange is a key indicator fixed in regulatory documents. It shows how many times an hour the entire volume of air in the room is replaced with a new one. When planning airing, it is worth focusing on such values:

• For the office, the norm will be 5-7 volumes of air per hour.
• For the kitchen — 6-8 volumes.
• For residential premises — about 3 cubic meters per square meter per hour.

The standards are advisory in nature. But it is worth observing them — otherwise the risk of unpleasant consequences will be high.

Solutions for ventilation of the room

When choosing a complete set of a metal-plastic window, it is worth thinking in advance about how the ventilation function will be implemented. There are enough tools for this — and each has its own characteristics:

• The basic option is ventilation when installing the sash in the folding position. This feature is available in almost any window with an opening sash. This method of ventilation is quite convenient, especially in the summer — while it is warm, the sash can not be closed at all, and the air exchange will be constant.
• With the onset of cold weather, this method of ventilation loses its appeal — too much heat disappears. An alternative is to use micro—ventilation or step-by-step ventilation. At the same time, air enters the room constantly, but in small portions, because it has time to heat up. Heat loss cannot be avoided — but they will be several times less, and the room will be provided with fresh air.
• Intensive "volley" ventilation is another effective solution. Once an hour or an hour and a half, the windows fully open for 5-10 minutes to receive the maximum volume of air. Yes, the room will cool down quickly, but it will be possible to get rid of stagnant air and get a charge of oxygen.

Pay attention! Volley ventilation is carried out when the sash is installed in the rotary position. To do this, it is convenient to use latches or turn limiters — special hardware elements that hold the sash, and do not allow it to either swing open or slam shut.

• Finally, it is possible to install a wall or window supply valve. The window valve is built into the upper part of the window and is responsible for the constant flow of fresh air. Together with a working hood, it provides continuous air exchange — that is, the room constantly receives oxygen and gets rid of excess carbon dioxide and moisture.

Important! The window valve lets air through in small portions, and in the upper, warmest part of the room. Cold air from the street warms up quickly there — therefore, after installing the valve, there is no discomfort from a decrease in temperature.

Ventilation is no less (and sometimes more) important compared to thermal insulation. When replacing windows with metal-plastic ones, you need to think in advance about the organization of effective air exchange.
