Handles for plastic windows

WiDo Handles for plastic windows

When choosing a plastic window, it is worth paying attention to such an element as a window handle. The reasons are obvious:

  • Firstly, it is with her that we will have to contact most often, opening and closing the window.
  • Secondly, the handle is an important element of the window design, therefore it should be harmoniously combined with the design in style and shade.

That's why you need to choose the handle carefully, and take into account its appearance, reliability, safety, as well as additional functions.

Handle design

Most of the window handles are arranged according to the standard scheme. The handle itself is connected to a four-sided pin that connects the handle to the hardware mechanism. For mounting on the sash, a base is used, in which holes for fasteners are provided.

But at the same time, the handles can be different:

  • One-sided models have one handle.
  • Double-sided handles are equipped with handles on both the inside and outside of the structure. Such handles are usually equipped with a balcony door — so that the owner can go out onto the balcony and close the sash tightly so that smoke or cold air does not penetrate into the room.

In addition, it is worth mentioning handles with an enlarged handle shoulder. They are suitable for heavy door structures, sliding type structures — that is, for shutters with large dimensions and weight. Thanks to the increased size of the handle, we have a longer lever in our hands, and the opening/closing requires less effort. In addition, such handles make them more massive — therefore it is more difficult to break them accidentally.

Another interesting variety is the "shell". Such a handle is not equipped with a mechanism for interacting with accessories, but is a small bracket or plastic or metal fixed on the sash. For such a bracket, you can pull the sash to the frame by activating the balcony latch. This element is also called the "smoker's handle" — and indeed, with its help, you can close the door to the balcony tightly enough and protect the room from smoke.

Material

Handles — both standard and designer — can be made of different materials. Most often used:

  • Plastic (naturally, in combination with a metal internal mechanism).
  • Silumin is a composite based on silicon and aluminum, light, but quite fragile
  • Aluminum is stronger, but more expensive than silumin
  • Brass or other alloys
  • Stainless steel

The last two points relate mainly to non—standard products - designer handles or models with increased safety indicators. The use of high-quality materials leads to an increase in the cost of the window, because silumin or plastic models are usually used in the economy configuration.

The protective coating can also be different. In the production of pens, compositions based on polyester, pural or other polymers are used, which are applied to the blanks in a molten state. It is also possible to paint the handles with powder pigments — this allows you to make parts in almost any shade.

Standard handles and designer models

90% of all windows are equipped with handles, which can be conditionally classified as standard. Such products are characterized by:

  • Unified standard sizes.
  • Simplified shape — smooth or ergonomic (with a bend or recesses for a more comfortable grip).
  • Plain polymer coating — most often white or brown.

An alternative is to complete the window with a designer handle. Such models fully retain their functionality, but at the same time differ from standard products:

  • Form. The choice is huge — from copies of antique cast bronze pens to models with strict geometric shapes in the "hi-tech" style. Despite the variety of shapes, manufacturers are trying to make such handles comfortable and reliable, so that they can be used in the same way as standard ones.
  • Color. The palette is also limitless — the designer pen can be painted in any color according to the RAL catalog. Metallics deserve special mention — chrome, bronze, silver or gold handles look good in both classic and modern interiors.

Prices for non-standard pens are higher. But the ability to change the appearance of the window becomes a decisive argument that outweighs the rise in price.

Additional security features

The category of non-standard handles includes not only designer models, but also products with additional functions. As a rule, these functions are aimed at increasing the level of security. The simplest solutions:

  • Locking the rotation with a button.
  • Locking the turn with a lock that closes with a key.

The benefits of installing such handles are obvious — the locked mechanism will not be able to be turned from the outside, because it will be more difficult to crack the window. In addition, a lock locked with a key will not allow a child to open the window — this is an additional argument in favor of choosing just such a handle.

Handles with Secustik and Secuforte mechanisms from HOPPE work differently. In the first case, a special device inside the handle body blocks attempts to turn it from the outside. In the second case, the handle can be turned only by pressing it, that is, only from inside the room. Both solutions are effective — such handles are equipped with windows in a burglar-proof configuration.

The range of window handles is extensive — both standard models and products with additional functions and original design are available for purchase. Therefore, you should not immediately install the "default" handle — it is quite possible that an employee of the company salon can offer you a more suitable solution!
