One of the advantages of modern metal-plastic windows is that they can be completed taking into account the needs of the owner. This applies primarily to the hardware mechanism — the hardware can not only open and close the sash, but also perform other functions.
One of these functions — folding ventilation — is known to almost everyone. However, the possibility to open the flap for ventilation is not limited to the potential of accessories, so below we will talk about less well-known possibilities.
Ventilation in different modes
The tightness of the metal-plastic window leads to the fact that in the closed position, the structure blocks air exchange with the external environment by almost 100% (unlike wooden windows that let a little air through the pores). That is why, after installing a metal—plastic window, it is necessary to properly organize ventilation - so at the stage of configuration it is worth choosing additional elements for comfortable air exchange:
Stepwise ventilation — the ability to choose the width of the gap between the frame and the hinged sash. To do this, an element in the form of a comb is installed on the window, which allows you to fix the sash at several angles. A handle is used to select the position of the sash.
Microventilation is another option for enhanced ventilation capabilities. However, there is only one position to choose here: when you turn the handle at an angle of 45 °, a small gap about 1.5 mm wide opens. Through such a gap, air enters in small portions, and even in the cold season, the room is not supercooled.
Two—position airing is "an option for the lazy." The structure is equipped with a special element that can be installed in two positions. When choosing the "summer" mode, the flap opens in the folding position as wide as possible, and in the "winter" mode, the width of the slit decreases. It is necessary to regulate the intensity of ventilation only twice a year.
Volley ventilation with the window open
To ventilate the room, a window is usually installed in a folding position — but this does not always provide sufficient air flow. If you need to ventilate the room intensively, you can simply open the sash, but it should be fixed with something. If this is not done, then the sash will either swing open from gusts of wind (broken double—glazed windows, damaged slopes, everything that was on the windowsill is now on the floor), or it will slam shut (risk of damage to fittings and double-glazed windows).
The simplest solution is to put a book or a wooden block under the sash. A modern and effective solution is to install an additional piece of hardware:
A small metal lever, which is placed at the bottom of the sash, and is attached to the frame, is called an opening limiter. It performs two functions: it does not allow the sash to swing open and touch the slope, and also slows down its movement due to spring—loading and resistance of the built-in roller. Therefore, even with a strong gust of wind, the sash equipped with a limiter will move much slower.
There is also a more complicated detail — the flap lock. It connects to the hardware mechanism and is controlled by a handle. When the handle is turned up, the latch blocks the movement of the sash, and it is fixed at the selected angle. The reliability of fixation is very high, because even strong gusts of wind will not be able to move the blocked sash from its place.
Most often, latches and sash limiters are used in summer — when the window is open most of the day. But even in winter they will be useful: during cleaning, you can quickly ventilate the room by opening all the windows wide open — and at this time it is better to be sure that the sash will not close.
Comfort
High energy efficiency, reliability and functionality characteristic of metal-plastic windows can be achieved only by increasing the mass of the sash. This leads to the fact that the load on the fittings increases — and it becomes more difficult to turn the handle and open the sash. Elderly people, teenagers, as well as people with disabilities experience special difficulties.
It is possible to facilitate the process of opening and closing the window by installing such hardware elements:
The lever or roller that lifts the sash is called a microlift. The microlift reduces the load on the sash and facilitates the operation of the locking mechanism. When the window is closed, part of the load falls on the microlift — and therefore the trunnions go behind the response bars with less effort. In addition, the use of a microlift prevents the sash from rubbing — even with a slight misalignment, the window will open and close without difficulty.
Heavy window sashes and balcony doors are equipped with error blockers. This detail prevents the window from hanging on one hinge when trying to open a window set for airing. If the blocker is active (that is, it is not pressed against the surface of the sash), then it simply will not turn the handle.
Safety
Security is a characteristic that is important for all windows without exception. And choosing the right hardware configuration plays an important role in ensuring safety. There are various hardware solutions for increased security, therefore in the article we will give only the main list:
Children's castle. It is placed in the lower part of the window, does not prevent the opening of the structure for ventilation. At the same time, the child cannot open the sash without the knowledge of adults.
A handle with a button/key. Performs the same functions as a child lock (a handle with a button is effective only up to a certain age). In addition, handles of this type are better protected from hacking, because a button or key blocks an attempt to turn the pin from the outside.
Accessories in a burglar-proof configuration. It differs from the standard fittings in the shape and material of the locking elements — trunnions and counter slats. It holds the sash in the closed position much better.
A metal—plastic window can also be equipped with other fittings - the list of them is extensive. But even the details listed in the article are very effective — their installation increases comfort when using the window, reduces the risk of penetration and facilitates microclimate control.

Sometimes, when replacing old wooden structures with new metal-plastic windows, black spots appear on the slopes and quickly grow. It is not difficult to recognize mold in them. If no drastic measures are taken, the colonies of the fungus will increase rapidly.
What caused the problem, how to deal with it, and also how to prevent the appearance of mold – read below.
