Mosquito nets: types and tips for choosing

In summer, it is necessary to regularly ventilate the room not only for air exchange, but also to combat overheating, and insects are especially active at this time of year. Protection from the penetration of insects into the room is most effectively provided by a mosquito net. • The framework ones are the most popular and in demand. The canvas is stretched not on the window itself, but on a light frame made of polyvinyl chloride or aluminum profile. The frame of the mosquito net can be attached to the window with the help of various devices.
• Mosquito net with Velcro. The lightest design that does not have a frame and therefore does not take up much storage space. It is equipped with Velcro around the perimeter, which holds the canvas on the window frame in a stretched state. The reliability of fixation is low, because a mosquito net with Velcro is rarely used.
• Roller mosquito net. The cloth of the mosquito net is folded into a roller, which is located inside the box. If you need to block the opening to protect against insects, the canvas unfolds, while its edges move along the guides. Most often, the grid unfolds from top to bottom, but there are options with lateral placement of the box and horizontal installation of guides.
• Mosquito net-pleated. Another compact option. Unlike a roller mosquito net, this design does not collapse, but folds like an accordion, moving along the guides.

Before choosing a mosquito net by design, you need to take into account a whole range of factors — from the budget to the design of the window. So, roller shutter models are convenient and reliable — but they are quite expensive. Frame structures are easy to install, but it is not too convenient to regularly remove them for cleaning and dismantle them for the winter. And the Velcro mesh has the main disadvantage — low reliability of fixation.

The choice of a mosquito net for installation on a plastic window should be made, taking into account also the type of canvas. The main types of mosquito nets are equipped with canvases of three main varieties:

• Standard nets for insect protection (cells up to 1.2*1.2 mm in size). Most often they are made on a frame profile with a durable polymer cloth. This cell size provides good protection against mosquitoes.
• "Anti—dust" or "anti-dust" is a mosquito net that is designed to protect the room from smaller particles. Cells no larger than 0.5 * 1 mm pass significantly less dust from the street and pollen from plants. As a result, less soot and soot settles on the window profile from the inside, and people who live in a house or apartment suffer significantly less from seasonal allergies.

Pay attention! The "Anti-pollen" grid does not provide 100% blocking of pollen, therefore it is impossible to completely exclude the possibility of allergic reactions after installing such a grid. But its effectiveness is high.

• "Antikoshka". The main difference of this mesh is a strong profile, a strong polymer cloth, reliable fixation on the frame of a metal—plastic window. The main task is to prevent pets from falling out of windows: a properly installed mosquito net of this type can withstand serious weight loads and has high tensile strength.

Pay attention! The durable profile and polymer fabric can withstand the weight of a cat — but not the weight of a small child. Therefore, they are not intended to protect children from falling: this task is solved with the help of special hardware mechanisms.

Methods of installing a mosquito net on a plastic window

The most common design of mosquito nets — frame mesh — can be installed on the window in different ways. Apply:

• "Pockets" are corner brackets or longitudinal guides that are mounted from the outside of the window. The frame profile of the mosquito net is simply wound up in the "pockets" and held in them under its own weight. The guides are inexpensive, they are installed simply — but it is not very convenient to remove the grid from them for maintenance.
• Hinges are attached to the frame profile, as well as to the window frame from the outside. In the closed position, the mosquito net is held with a light latch.
• Anvis mounting — small metal brackets ("flags") are installed on the frame profile, which rotate around the mounting point. During installation, the flag is simply wound up by the surfacing and holds the frame profile with a stretched canvas.

There are other ways to install a mosquito net — for example, a plunger mount using spring-loaded metal rods. But still, usually structures for insect protection are mounted using the three devices described above.

Maintenance and repair of mosquito nets

You can extend the life of the mosquito net by following the following recommendations:

• In the cold season, it is advisable to remove the mesh and store it indoors — so the strength of the profile and the canvas will not decrease under the influence of temperature changes.
• To clean the canvas from accumulated dust, it is washed with a stream of water from a shower watering can. It is advisable to do this at least once a month — then the dust will not accumulate, and the room will get enough light and air.
• It is necessary to remove the grid from the guides only with the help of special handles.

It is also important to protect the canvas from any damage — even a small gap will cause the penetration of insects. If this happens, you should call the master for repair. As a rule, the repair consists in removing the fixing cord and installing a new canvas. You can cope with this task on your own — but the cost of the service together with the departure of the master to you is approximately equal to the price of the canvas and other spare parts in the store.
